Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge's™ Chosen Charities

The Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge, with the support of the many riders, has supported and continues to support a number of charities.

Until 2018, the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge™ Organization would focus its fundraising efforts on behalf of the Pine Ridge Area Chamber of Commerce. This non-profit 501(c)3 is dedicated to making the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation a better place to live, work and raise a family. Much of the money raised during the Hoka Hey Motorcycle ChallengeTM has gone toward college scholarships for students graduating from each of the five high schools on the reservation.

In 2018, it was decided that, since the Event was beginning and ending on Comanche lands, the organization’s fundraising efforts should be made on behalf of the Comanche Nation. A non-profit organization called N8tive Generation was selected as our chosen charity and, not only our efforts, but the efforts of a number of Hoka Hey participants helped to give young people the opportunity to use their Native culture as a means of preventing the hopelessness and despair which so often results in substance abuse or worse.

The decision to recognize and honor the First Nations whose land we are borrowing has set a new tradition in motion – a tradition that will hold well into the future of the Event. In order to make the greatest impact and to better serve our mission; the Medicine Show LLC will devote our efforts to the Indigenous people of the region where the Challenge is being held.

In 2020, we began and ended the Challenge in Panama City Beach, Florida, the traditional home of the Muscogee Nation of Florida. Raffles, auctions and donations collected over $14,000 for the benefit of the Muscogee Nation of Florida Emergency Relief fund in 2020.

WACANTOGNAKA (wash-on-tog-naka) HONORARY AWARD FOR FUNDRAISING was established and awarded for the first time at the 2021 rendezvous. WACANTOGNAKA is the Lakota word for Generosity, and it means to contribute to the wellbeing of one’s people and all life by sharing and giving freely. This sharing is not just of objects and possessions, but of emotions like sympathy, compassion, and kindness. It also means to be generous with one’s personal time. The act of giving and not looking for anything in return can make you a better person and make you happy.
